Steam, Chiefs series tied 1-1

Summerland Steam defeated the Kelowna Chiefs 2-1 Friday before falling 5-3 Saturday at the Rutland Arena to leave the Kootenay Internatio­nal Junior Hockey League best-of-seven Okanagan Division championsh­ip series tied at 1-1.

Games 3 and 4 go tonight and Tuesday at 7:30 p.m. at the Summerland Arena, with Game 5 now a certainty Thursday back in Kelowna.

In Saturday’s

Game 2, Devin Sutton’s power play goal with 6:31 left stood as the winner as Kelowna evened the series.

Dylan Jordan Lowry, Tyler Love and Isaac Dutka also scored for the Chiefs, who outshot the Steam 3928. Tyson Conroy, Cory Loring and Mitchell Gove scored for the Steam, who trailed 2-1 and 3-1 at the period breaks.

On Friday,

Cody Swan’s goal with 3:42 to play proved to be the winner as the Steam beat the powerhouse Chiefs for the third time this season in their ownbuildin­g.

Kelowna went 43-3-1-2 in the regular season.

Lane French opened the scoring for the Steam in the second period and Swan made it 2-0.

Kayson Gallant’s power play goal with 53 seconds left spoiled Jared Breitkreuz’s shutout and set up some late drama.

The Steam has held Chiefs scoring star Brodie Dale to just a pair of second assists in the two games.
