Sedin twins set to enter hall of fame this summer

Jackman, Delorme, Heyer also answering the hall’s call

Swedish twins Daniel and Henrik Sedin highlight the class of 2019 to the B.C. Hockey Hall of Fame.

The long-time star forwards of the Vancouver Canucks join former St Louis Blues defenceman Barret Jackman as inductees into the player category at the BCHHF induction dinner on July 19 at Penticton Lakeside Resort.

Ron Delorme, a member of the Vancouver Canucks organizati­on for many years as a player and scout, will be inducted in the builders’ category, along with the late Karen Wallace, an integral part of women’s hockey in B.C. Thirty-year NHL official Shane Heyer, who hails from Summerland, will be inducted into the officials category.

The 1997-98 South Surrey Eagles of the B.C. Hockey League, winners of the RBC Cup national junior-A championsh­ip, will be inducted in the team category.

Henrik Sedin was captain of the Canucks from 2010 until his retirement in 2018. Henrik played 1,330 NHL games scoring 240 goals and 1,070 points. He was the recipient of many individual awards including the Hart, Art Ross and King Clancy trophies and named to several NHL all-star games. He also won Olympic and world championsh­ip medals for Sweden. He is the Canucks all-time leading points scorer.

Daniel Sedin played 1,306 NHL games scoring 393 goals and 1,041 points. Daniel captured Olympic and World Championsh­ip medals with Sweden. He won numerous NHL trophies including the Art Ross, Ted Lindsay Award, King Clancy and NHL All-Star honours.

Jackman, a native of Trail, played junior with the Beaver Valley Nite Hawks and won a Cyclone Taylor Cup provincial junior-B title, and Trail Smoke Eaters in the BCHL. Jackman played 876 NHL games with St Louis and Nashville recording 186 points as an elite, shutdown defenceman. He won the Calder Memorial Trophy in 2003 as the NHL’s top rookie and represente­d Canada at the World Juniors and World Championsh­ips.

Heyer was an on-ice NHL official for 30 years and one of the select few to have worked NHL games as referee and linesman. He officiated 386 games as a referee and 1,630 games as a linesman. He officiated at the 2010 Winter Olympics, NHL all-star games, World Cup of Hockey and Stanley Cup final.

Delorme, inducted into the Builders Category, played in the Western Hockey League. He was a member of the Colorado Rockies and Canucks in a nine-year NHL playing career.

He’s been a member of the Canucks organizati­on for 38 years, employed since 1985 as a member of the scouting staff. He has been a role model for aspiring indigenous hockey players. When not scouting, he spends time encouragin­g native youth as a tireless advocate for First Nations people.

Wallace died on March 23, 2018. She was an integral part of women’s hockey developmen­t in B.C.

She was secretary of North Delta Minor Hockey, director of B.C. Female Hockey and was the winner of the 1999 Breakthrou­gh Award.

Her personal achievemen­ts include launching the under-18 championsh­ips and Hockey Canada’s Girls’ Program of Excellence.

The 1997-98 South Surrey team, winners of the RBC Cup, defeated Weyburn 4-1 in the championsh­ip game. Former longtime Penticton resident Mark Holick was the head coach/GM of the team.
