Vipers hope to put scare into Vees on Friday the 13th

-

The Penticton Vees and Vernon Vipers will write the latest chapter in their storied B.C. Hockey League rivalry on Friday the 13th at the South Okanagan Events Centre.

Both teams are coming off fivegame, first-round series victories as they take to the ice in a best-ofseven, Interior Division semifinal series beginning Friday at 7 p.m.

Game 2 goes Saturday at the SOEC before the series shifts to Kal Tire Place on Monday and Wednesday.

If necessary, Game 5 is March 20 at the SOEC, Game 6 is March 21 in Vernon and Game 7 is March 23 at SOEC.

Penticton (44-12-1-1) finished 26 points ahead of the fourth-place Vipers (30-24-2-2) in the regular season as the Vees rolled to their ninth straight Interior pennant.

The Vees beat West Kelowna in the first round while the Vipers dispatched the Wenatchee Wild.

The Vees won five of the seven meetings with Vernon in the regular season, with each team earning one of their victories in overtime.

The teams are meeting for the first in the playoffs since 2017.

Until then, the teams had met four straight years in the post-season with Penticton taking three of those series.

The three other second-round series also get going on Friday, with Salmon Arm travelling to Trail in the other Interior semifinal.

Surrey visits Coquitlam to start the Mainland Division final and Cowichan Valley goes to Nanaimo to launch the Island Division final.

Tickets for the Vees home games in the series with Vernon are available for purchase at the Valley First Box Office as well as online at ValleyFirstTix.com.
