Rescue dog goes missing

A rescue dog from California needs to be saved for a second time.

Muneca, a five-kilogram (10 pound), female chihuahua, was rescued from a high-kill shelter in northern California by Marvelous Mutts Rescue and Rehoming, which is based in Merritt.

The dog spent Friday night in Rutland and immediately hit it off with a prospective owner. The two went for a walk and the dog was spooked when they had a chance meeting with an unknown man. The dog got out of her harness and ran and was never caught.

She was last seen at 10 p.m. on Friday in the Adobe Townhouse Complex on Gerstmar Road in Kelowna, between Tataryn Court and Theodora Road. She escaped under a fence and hasn’t been seen since.

Muneca is described as an indoor dog and will find the outdoor elements challenging. Her personality is timid and stand-offish with strangers. She is mostly black with a white chest and several white toes and a white front paw.

Margie Boddeker Honeywell of Marvelous Mutts has been searching non-stop since the dog went missing. She has been visiting shelters and regularly checking Facebook and other social media sites hoping Muneca will show up. She’s described as “heartbroken” because there have been no leads.

Anyone who has seen the dog is asked to contact Marvelous Mutts through their Facebook page or phone Honeywell at 250-378-7890 or Renae Green at 250-315-3623.
