Bringing the community together to help families

-

We dream of a world where everyone has a safe and decent place to live.

Habitat for Humanity Okanagan’s mission is to bring Okanagan communities together to help families build strength, stability and independence through affordable home ownership.

Every day in British Columbia, more and more families find themselves in a struggle to keep a decent roof over their heads.

Okanagan housing prices are out of reach and an affordable home has become unattainable for many. In fact, 1 in 8 families struggle just to pay rent and put food on the table.

Having any money to save for a down payment is just not realistic.

Habitat for Humanity Okanagan walks alongside families who are struggling to afford a home of their own.

And we don’t give them away.

Vetted families work 500 volunteer hours alongside builders to build their homes.

They then pay a zero downpayment, zero interest mortgage with payments at no more than 30% of their income to keep payments affordable for them.

Habitat relies completely on donations to build homes for our families, and research has shown that every $1 invested has a $4 social impact.

Many children from Habitat families attain a bachelor’s degree or higher, are more physically active, less reliant on social services like food banks, increase the quality of their employment and start donating to charities themselves.

In total, every Habitat home built helps to create $175,000 worth of benefits for the community they are built in.
