Lunch Queens ready to take your orders

- By BARB AGUIAR

With school poised to start in September, parents may want to scratch off worrying about school lunches with help from the Lunch Queens.

Nicole Dekok and Alexia Buschow are the Lunch Queens and recently opened their business at 1789 Ross Rd. by the ReStore in West Kelowna.

The two moms started Lunch Queens as a hot lunch delivery service to local schools, focusing on elementary and middle schools. Parents can order directly from the Lunchqueens.com website five days a week.

Dekok had been a hot lunch coordinator at her children’s school for the last two years and said she thought the system was too full of unhealthy food choices.

Dekok has four children and Buschow has twins. It’s important to them for kids to have healthy food to get them through the day, they said, so the moms came up with Lunch Queens offering fresh food and lots of dietary options to accommodate allergies or sensitivities.

Parents can go online to order whether it’s once a week or 20 days a month.

The Lunch Queens also offer last-minute orders, understanding that sometimes parents wake up and realized they don’t have time to make lunches.

They try to keep them affordable.

“For about $140 a month, you can get lunch for your kid 20 days a month,” she said.

The Lunch Queens donate back to the parent advisory councils at the schools. They also have a commercial cotton candy maker and popcorn maker to help with school fundraisers.

While the business started as a lunch service for students, Dekok and Buschow also opened their store front to local businesses and Mount Boucherie high school.

People can stop by for breakfast wraps, sandwiches, salads, smoothies, coffee and power bowls.

The Lunch Queens also have a large selection of snacks ready for people to pick up as they head to the beach or a picnic.

The Lunch Queens also offer corporate catering.

Lunch Queens is currently open Monday to Friday from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m., Saturday from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m. and closed Sunday. The Lunch Queens will extend their hours in September.
