Guard assaulted in mask dispute

-

ORLANDO, Fla. — A man hit a security guard in the head and threatened to kill him at Epcot theme park when he was asked to follow Disney World’s mask rules, sheriff’s officials said.

Enrico Toro, 35, was arrested Aug. 14 and charged with misdemeanour battery, an Orange County Sheriff’s Office arrest report said.

Toro, his wife and three children arrived at Epcot’s security area wearing “improper masks” about 4:40 p.m. on Aug. 14, an arrest report said. They returned to the car and came back to security again. One child still wore a mask didn’t fit Disney’s rules.

Toro “began cussing” and said, “Call the police. They will have to shoot me to leave,” the report said.

The security guard reached for his phone to notify a supervisor when Toro struck the guard’s head with an “open hand.”

Toro’s wife intervened, pushing her husband away.

“The male continued cussing at (the security guard) and began threatening that he knew where he lived and was going to kill him,” the arrest report said.

Court will be back

in session, live

OTTAWA — The Supreme Court of Canada will resume in-person hearings next month.

The fall session will begin Sept. 22 — earlier than expected, so the court can hear the cases delayed due to the COVID-19 pandemic before moving on with its original schedule.

There will be physical distancing measures in place in the courtroom, and lawyers who cannot come to Ottawa will be able to participate via video conference.

The court has long embraced technology by livestreaming proceedings on its website.
