The Rotary Centre for the Arts have two more live events, the first being on Friday, Oct. 23, at 7 p.m. under the banner title, ‘Very Short Showcase: Stories and Songs.’ Performers from our community and invited talent have signed up to reveal new works on the Mary Irwin Stage. The press release was quite vague in releasing what exactly we are going to experience, but I can’t imagine anything mediocre on a Friday night on their featured stage. To book your tickets for this two-hour free event visit the website (rotarycentreforthearts.com) and assign your seats.

On Saturday, Ballet Kelowna will be gracing the stage for a one-hour informal showing providing a glimpse into the company’s daily training, rehearsals, and choreographic process. Hosted by artistic director and CEO, Simone Orlando, this year’s ‘Launch’ will feature excerpts of a new solo-based work that Orlando is creating for six of the company artists. There are three time slots for this event: 2 p.m., 4:30 p.m. and 7 p.m. Most of the tickets are already reserved, but a handful remains.

Tomorrow night, the Atrium at the RCA will be used for a jazz concert featuring the young talent of Alex Klappe – trombone, Julius Brooker – drums, and Romano – bass in place of the Live at Five Thursday jam sessions. These are not jams – they are concerts, and admission is free (with cash donations to the band gratefully accepted). The concert begins at 5 p.m., so secure your seats by calling the box-office at 250-717-5304. There will be table service if anyone wants a drink. All patrons are required to wear masks and social distancing will be in effect.

Visit rotarycentreforthearts.com for more information about COVID-19 safety measures at the venue. The Rotary Centre for the Arts is at 421 Cawston Ave.

As we get closer to the end of the month, more events that cater to Halloween are being created and The View Winery is joining in on that fun with a pumpkin carving promotion inviting all ages to participate while the ‘grown-ups’ sip a beverage out in the apple orchard. I love the atmosphere up there and the owners always seem to create a balance of beauty and function for their guests. It starts at 2 p.m. on Oct. 24. Dress warm and win prizes for best Halloween costume and best pumpkin. Tickets for this are $23.79.

Visit theviewwinery.com/events/ pumpkin-carving/ for more info. The View Winery is located at 2287 Ward Rd. in East Kelowna.

Meanwhile, Myra Canyon Halloween SCARE Park is now open from 5:30 p.m. to 10 p.m. on Oct. 23, 24, 29, 30, 31 and Nov. 1. There will be age appropriate fun and scares for young and not so young, along with new attractions that might be lurking in the trees, so dare to be scared! General Admission is $25 plus tax per person. Contact Suzanne at 250-718-8219 with any questions or book your tickets online at myracanyonadventure.com/ halloween-scare-park.

It’s my birthday on Friday and as I get wiser I also become more aware of how blessed my life is – I just want to take this time to thank you for your continued support, your loving and positive emails to me as well as your reassuring words when we bump into each other while out and about.

My facade might strike you as positive and without fear, but at the end of the day I am a vulnerable human who covers her emotional scars with wit and grandeur while forging a continuous path to a happy ending and having your affirmation truly means the world to me.
