Summer reading club almost ready to begin
Looking for some free family fun this summer — something that also encourages reading and learning?
Check out the library’s Summer Reading Program! Starting on June 13, children aged 5-12 can join simply by popping into the Westbank library to pick up a package. We will also be offering modified programs for preschoolers, teens and adults.
This year’s theme is All Together Now, celebrating community and diversity; perfect to heal our post-pandemic divisions.
Upon joining, children will receive a colourful reading log, event schedule, and entries for our Name the Mascot and guessing contests.
They then keep track of their reading over the summer and for every seven days of reading, give themselves a sticker for a reward. They can read anything they want — comic books, e-books, audio-books, magazines. It doesn’t have to be library material.
If they complete their entire reading log (49 entries), bring it in to the library to receive a beautiful reading medal and a chance to win some awesome prizes.
Check out our cabinets in the children’s area of the library to see what they can win.
Thanks to these community partners for their monetary or prize donations: Westbank Friends of the Library, JohnsonBentley Memorial Aquatic Centre, Save-on Foods, Superstore, Donna’s Cafe, Just4Fun, Freeride Board shop, DRE Transportation Solutions and Wibbit Splashparks.
We also have some fun events and entertainment planned throughout the summer. There will be clowns, crafts, a puppet show, indigenous storyteller, dancing, and slime making.
Hope to see you at the library this summer!
Book sales
Westbank Friends of the Library will be hosting a number of small book sales throughout the summer to coincide with the Westbank Farmer’s Market. Watch for tables set up outside the library every second Saturday starting this Saturday from 10 a.m. to 2.pm. Who knows what treasures you may find?
