Association president named senior of the year

- By the Westside Senior Service Centre Association

At the annual general meeting of the Westside Senior Citizens Service Association on May 17, the Senior of the Year award was presented to Carol Masse.

Lorna Hill, last year’s senior of the year, presented the award.

Masse joined the centre in 2015. Before long, she was nominated to the role of director and in 2019 became the president of the association.

Over the years, she has been an active member in some of the organizations that strive to better the community and she works to expand the community’s knowledge of our centre.

She has been in recent times, the group’s newspaper columnist as well.

When COVID-19 arrived, her endless dedication to the centre became even more apparent as she spent countless hours keeping the organization’s members up to date on the latest health rules and regulations.

There were many hours of reading, printing, information giving and receiving and countless phone calls while the centre remained closed.

RESPONSE FROM CAROL MASSE

I would like to thank the members for a successful return to our activities in September 2021 and again in February 2022. Without your dedication to the guidelines set out by the Provincial Health officer, we would not have been able to stay healthy and continue participating in those activities that we love.

I would also like to thank the City of West Kelowna for their continued support of our association and for being such great partners in keeping our building safe and well looked after. We appreciate all that you do for us.

As we return to normalcy, I want to wish each and every one of you continued health and enjoyment in all that our centre has to offer you. Although our weekly socials have now ended until September, many of our activities are running throughout the summer months. Please check the schedule on our doors or call 250-863-1068 for more information and you can always call the centre directly at 250-768-4004.

I would like to sincerely thank those who nominated me as Senior of the Year for 202223. It is a privilege and honour to represent you and work for your benefit at the Senior Activity Centre. Without our volunteers, we would not succeed.

Please mark your calendars for June 21, as we will be holding a final Hamburger Day before the full summer break. Doors open at 11:30 and lunch is served to the first 60 at noon.

We will limit our numbers to 60 on this date, so make sure you are there when the doors open. We hope to increase our numbers in the fall when we return to fulltime scheduling.
