-

July 31, 1927 – June 9, 2022

It is with great sadness that we announce the passing of our Aunty Kaye on June 9th at the age of 94. Kathleen was born to Sadie and Henry McKenna in 1927 and grew up in Rossland, BC with four sisters, Lillian, Edith, Sheila, Joan and brother James. They were all exposed to the winters on Red Mountain and summers in Kaslo. Kathleen became an excellent skier and that remained a main sport of hers through a large part of her life. She especially loved golf and that too would follow her all the way through

of Rossland to achieve her goal of becoming a school teacher. Kathleen always loved children and though she didn’t have her own she encouraged and taught hundreds of children over her teaching career and was likely a favourite teacher to many. She started teaching in New Westminster after graduating from Normal School in Victoria, BC in 1947. She went on to teach in Chilliwack, Surrey and eventually in Reno, Nevada. Not only was she able to golf more in Nevada but loved the skiing in the Sierra

life together with all the things she loved to do; golf, skiing and travel. After her husband’s passing, she continued on with her interests and even joined a bicycling group in her 70’s and rode through the Sierra mountains! Aunty Kaye lived a very good life and aside from reading, she was more apt to be active in the outdoors. In recent years, she moved to Penticton, BC to be closer to her family, residing in Cherry Park Residence and then McKinney Place in Oliver. Many thanks to the various people who cared for Kaye in the last years.
