Late runs propel Falcons to win over Applesox

After 2-1 loss on Tuesday, Kelowna bounces back for 4-1 win over visiting Wenatchee on Wednesday

-

The Kelowna Falcons scored three times in the seventh and eighth innings to snap a 1-1 tie and beat the visiting Wenatchee Applesox 4-1 in West Coast League baseball action Wednesday

With the score tied heading into the bottom of the seventh the Falcons scored the eventual winning run on an RBI single off the bat of Damian Stone.

His base hit brought home Mike Montrezza who had walked to lead off the inning.

The home side added some insurance in the eighth with a pair of run-scoring hits from Shea Thomas and Griffin Palfrey.

The pitching staff was solid at Elks Stadium as starter Brock Keller lasted five and two-thirds innings allowing just one run and scattered eight hits.

Jacob Greenan picked up the victory throwing the last three innings while striking out four.

Tuesday night was a pitching duel in which the visitors came out with a 2-1 win.

Both teams scored in their first at bats. The Applesox opened the scoring, getting a run off of Derek Beairsto.

The Falcons responded with an sacrifice fly by CJ Richmond to score Jake Steels, who got on base with a walk.

From there it was all pitching as Beairsto lasted three innings before making way for Sean Fekete.

After an easy fourth inning, Fekete allowed a solo homer un in the fifth off the bat of Matt Halbach, which turned out to be the game winner.

Kieren Hall threw the final three scoreless innings.

The Falcons offence was held to just five hits, two from Kam Edwards.

The Falcons are in Edmonton for a three-game series starting tonight against the Riverhawks.
