Laughs on tap as Okanagan comedy fest hits some local stages

Get ready to laugh as the Okanagan Comedy Festival set for Aug. 24 to 28 will be the biggest yet and will include three Westside venues in their lineup.

Grizzli Winery will offer stand up comedy Aug. 24 at 7:30 p.m. with Chuck Byrn, Evan Carter and Myles Morrison, Aug. 27 at 7:30 p.m. with Erica Sigurdson, Dean Jenkinson and a yet to be named guest star, as well as Aug. 28 at 4:30 p.m. with Danny Martinello, Scott Dumas and Big Daddy Taz.

Check out Chuck Bryn, Danny Martinello and Sterling Scott performing stand up at Wings West Kelowna Aug. 25 at 8:30 p.m.

There will be stand-up comedy at Carlos O’Bryan’s Aug. 28 at 7:30 p.m. with performanc­es from Danny Martinello, Big Daddy Taz and Tim Nutt.

Film fever

The Okanagan has a rapidly growing film and television industry with an expanding need for crew members.

Those who want to work in the Okanagan film industry can kickstart their career at the Take-Two – Okanagan Film Fundamenta­ls Bootcamp which will help people on the first steps toward building a successful career in motion picture production. Presented by the Okanagan Film Commission, Westbank First Nation and the Centre of Arts and Technology

Kelowna, Take Two is a three-day program that runs Sept. 23 to 25 and offers participan­ts two days of classroom and hands-on practical training from profession­als. The third day, participan­ts will use that training in making a short film.

Participan­ts will learn basic industry informatio­n all crew members need to know, practical training with industry profession­als and have opportunit­ies to network with instructor­s and other industry people. Burger donation

On Aug. 18 A & W will donate $2 from every Teen Burger sold to support Canadians living with MS as part of its Burgers to Beat MS. Since 2008, A&W has raised more than $17 million. The donations fund research aimed at halting the progressio­n of Multiple Sclerosis, advance treatment and care as well as support to ensure that people affected by MS receive the support they need. According to the MS Society of Canada, on average, 12 Canadians are diagnosed with MS every day. People can also round up their bill at the till or make donation online.

People can also snap a photo of Ms or Ss, cover the letters with burger emojis and tag @awcanada on social media. For every post that tags @awcanada, A & W will donate $2 to the MS Society, up to a total of $40,000.
