Social Credit Leader Bill Bennett is touring North Vancouver Island as part of a person-to-person campaign to formulate fresh policies for the party.

“This is the first time any political party in B.C. has made this approach,” Mr. Bennett said. “This will lead to a party reflecting the whole of B.C. as a province in contrast to the NDP.”

He said he will be available to the people for discussions and consultations, rather than making speeches, during his tour of the province.

“I have noticed a lot of interest among some very notable people,” he said. “This is a program of visiting and listening.”

Bennett is the Social Credit MLA for the South Okanagan riding. HIs tour will also take him to Prince George, Smithers, the Kootenays, Vancouver, and Victoria.

At Fintry, we hear, Major J.C. Dun-Waters is building an artistic museum to contain amongst other things a number of his hunting trophies and many beautiful specimens of the wilds. The building is to be composed of grey granite quarried on the estate and will be another interesting and valuable improvement on what is already a splendidly equipped place.

In other Westside and Wilson Landing news, a week ago we were eating our first asparagus and rhubarb for the season, despite having a very short snow and hailstorm for variety sake last Monday. Not that we are offering any complaints on the weather’s vagaries because, on the whole, it leaves nothing to be desired and we certainly have had our share of sunshine.

Some smudging has been necessary in the orchards but so far no damage appears to have been done.
