Life
Because it’s precious, no matter what we go through. I understand we are fighting an invisible enemy, and I choose to beat it by continuing to take care of my mind, body and spirit. The sun still rises, the birds still chirp, the flowers still bloom, the stars still shine and the water still sparkles. We must stay strong, positive and thankful for what we do have, and believe that better days are ahead.
Native pride
I am proud to be Anishinaabe! I am so proud to be from a strong nation. I come from a beautiful culture, and I dance to those thundering drumbeats with pride and joy. I embrace my gifts that the creator has blessed me with.
Community
I am Anishinaabe from beautiful Wiikwemkoong, Manitoulin Island, Ontario, and no matter where I go and where I have been, I never forget who I am and where I come from. I have danced several times on several stages across this land and overseas, and I am proud to represent my people, my culture and my community.
Age
I don’t want any regrets. I don’t want to look back one day and say, “I wish I did this” or “I wish I did that.” I am right here, right now, and I choose to live the best way I know how. Honour life at every age. Remember to take care physically, mentally, emotionally and spiritually. You are stronger than you think.
Talent
Embrace your gifts and take your talents all the way. I design, bead and sew my own dance outfits. I don’t wait for others to do things for me. I take pride in what I do. I love my culture.
Life is too short! Live life to its fullest! Chi-miigwech!
