Local organizations partner to provide school snacks
The Huron County Food Bank Distribution Centre and the Huron-Perth Children’s Aid Society have partnered to provide school snacks to more than 7,000 students in Huron and Perth counties.
According to Breakfast Club Canada, one in five children goes to school without breakfast or lunch. “Hunger is not something that is shared, but experienced silently. The Huron County Food Bank Distribution Centre is pleased to partner with the Huron-Perth Children’s Aid Society,” executive director Mary Ellen Zielman said. “Snacks at school are so vital in helping children be available for learning.” Huron-Perth Children’s Aid Society officials echoed this commitment to tackling food insecurity, “The Huron-Perth Children’s Aid Society is proud to support the Huron County Food Bank Distribution Centre in the quest to ensure our communities’ food insecurity needs are met,” executive director Kristian Wilson said. “Our organization is fortunate enough this year to be able to help a wonderful organization provide school snacks to children in Huron and Perth counties.
"We know that food insecurity can lead to additional stress for families and know that it is hard for children to concentrate on learning when they are hungry. We are very grateful for the work of the Huron County Food Distribution Centre, its staff and volunteers who provide real help to children, youth and families in the Huron and Perth jurisdiction.”
