Charlottetown needs better snow removal plan, says Brown
Charlottetown mayoral candidate Philip Brown says the city needs a better plant to deal with snow removal.
“We all remember the fiasco experienced last winter when many streets were clogged for days,” Brown said Monday.
“That created very dangerous conditions for both drivers and pedestrians, disrupted businesses and caused general inconvenience. A repeat of last year’s poor snow removal efforts is completely unacceptable.”
Brown said the current mayor has been silent on this issue, and has failed to take action on one of the city’s most basic responsibilities. He said while some problems cannot be fully anticipated or managed, the city needs to do a better job of clearing snow from downtown streets and sidewalks. Brown said the present approach is both inefficient and costly.
“This is an issue that has been raised by many residents over the course of this campaign. They were unable to get answers last winter and have received no assurances that the prospects for this coming winter will be any better.”
Brown said that one of his first orders of business as mayor will be to meet with all the stakeholders, including union members, to develop a snow removal strategy. He said the strategy would identify ways to more quickly and effectively clear snow from the downtown area.
“Charlottetown residents, businesses, schools and hospitals expect better from the City when it comes to basic services such as this. I know that we can do better.”
