The funeral service for Basil Gallant, beloved husband of Jacqueline Gallant, of North Rustico, P.E.I., was held on Thursday, October 23, 2014, at Stella Maris Roman Catholic Church, North Rustico. The presider for the mass of Christian burial was Reverend Floyd Gallant, who also proclaimed the Gospel and delivered the homily. The concelebra­nt was Reverend Brendan Gallant. The pall was placed on the casket by children, Michelyn Gallant, Marc Gallant and Michael Gallant. The first reading, from Romans, was addressed by Vernon Buote and the second reading, from I Thessaloni­ans, was addressed by Rose Gallant. The prayers of the faithful and poem, The Dash, written by Linda Ellis, were read by brotherin-law, Derrill Gallant. Bulletins were passed out by niece, Maria Lavoie and sister-in-law, Joan Gallant. Curtis Gallant was the cross bearer. The altar servers were Norman Gallant, Donnie Gallant and Peter Gallant. Music was provided by the church choir with sister-inlaw, Sister Phyllis Gallant, CND, as organist. The hymns were: Entrance, Lord, You Have Come; psalm, In the Lord’s Own House and Gospel acclamatio­n, Celtic Alleluia, led by cantor, Janet Doiron; offertory, Prayer of St. Francis; communion, I Am the Bread of Life; post communion, Hail Mary, Gentle Woman, sung by Janet Doiron; commendati­on, Songs of the Angels; and recessiona­l, How Great Thou Art. The pallbearer­s were brothers, Harold Gallant, Douglas Gallant, Dennis Gallant and Garnett Gallant; and brothers-in-law, Gavin Gallant and Roland Gallant. Flowerbear­ers were nieces and nephews. Among those in attendance were the Knights of Columbus, who formed an honour guard at the church and cemetery and former board members of Central Queen’s Funeral Co-op. Interment took place in Stella Maris Cemetery where the committal service was conducted by Father Floyd Gallant. Funeral arrangemen­ts were entrusted to Central Queen’s Funeral Home, New Glasgow, P.E.I.
