Charlottetown reaches voluntary water metre goal for this year
The chairman of the Water and Sewer Utility says Charlottetown has reached its goal for 2014.
Coun. Eddie Rice says the city has signed up the 1,000th customer who is voluntarily switching from the flat rate system to the metered billing system option.
Based on applications received to date, the program is at the threshold of meeting its target of 1,000 applications during 2014.
The city expects to announce the recipient in the next few days.
The city will be offering the 1,000th customer the equivalent of six months complimentary water and sewer service in their residence.
“This recognition is in addition to the free meter and installation already offered by the program,’’ said Mayor Clifford Lee.
The program will continue until Dec. 31 with the ongoing offer of free water meters and free installation.
Rice says for each group of 100 customers who sign up after the 1,000th applicant, an additional draw will be made from those 100 applicants for a $100 credit towards fees charged to their residential water and sewer bill.
“This incentive will continue to include each group of 100 applicants beyond one thousand until Dec. 31.”
