Zombie-themed escape game opens in time for Halloween

-

The Voluntary Resource Centre is adding to its popular P.E.I. Escape Rooms just in time for Halloween.

Opened in September as an innovative fundraiser for the charitable organization and now a runaway success with teams of two to five people lining up to play the live-action game each weekend, the organizers are taking the Escape Room games in a spookier direction. Today, they are launching their third and largest room: The Zombie Apocalypse.

“It’s like a post-apocalyptic crashpad,” says Kate Dempsey, one of the volunteer organizers of P.E.I. Escape Rooms. “It’s creepy, and dark, and it’s a great challenge for larger groups. We’re really excited about this room — teams not only have to solve all of the puzzles and get the key to escape, but the also have to collect supplies to help you survive in the zombie apocalypse”

For those not into the zombie theme, the previous two rooms, The Office and The House, are still running. The new room can also accommodate larger groups, with team sizes up to 10 people.

Sylvie Arsenault, manager of the Voluntary Resource Centre, says they have gotten quite a few requests from larger groups wanting to play the room together.

“Some workplaces like to play as a team building exercise — it’s a great time, really challenging.”

The rooms have also hosted date nights, pre-wedding outings, and birthday parties. Some groups specifically seek out the experience because it doesn’t involve alcohol.

“We really encourage people to come play first and go out for a drink after” says Dempsey, “We’ve had a few groups come through after a couple drinks and they have a harder time figuring out the puzzles. It helps to have all your faculties about you.”

The P.E.I. Escape Rooms will be open extended hours for Halloween weekend: today, Friday, Saturday and Sunday. Pre-registration is required, and bookings are accepted up until Friday at 4 p.m. To book or for more information, contact vrc@eastlink.ca or call 902-368-7337.
