New ceilidh series starts Nov. 1

-

A new series of ceilidhs is starting at the East Royalty Malcolm Darrach Centre on Sunday, Nov. 1, 7-9 p.m.

Hosted by a new group called The Three of Us (Brian Knox, Heartz Godkin and Judy Lowe), the ceilidhs will continue once a month as a fundraiser for the East Royalty Lions Club. Admission is $10 at the door.

The ceilidhs will feature some of the Island’s top talent, and starting things off will be two of the Island’s best singers — Dino Dunsford and Susan Campbell.

Dunsford first sang in public in 1966 in a university variety show and hasn’t looked back. He has been involved in many genres of music, including rock ‘n’ roll, country, Irish and, most recently, gospel. He has shared the stage with Chubby Checker and has sung the national anthems at many functions, including the NHL Ottawa Senators AHL team home games. Dunsford was voted the best male vocalist for this province in 1989 and won the best gospel CD award in 2004. With five CDs/albums to his credit, he puts lots of energy into his life performances, getting the audience singing and clapping along and taking requests.

Singing comes naturally for Campbell as she has been performing in bands since the age of 15 with various groups in the Souris area.

Originally from Dundas, she performs at many ceilidhs and twice a month sings at the Bayview Lodge entertaining the seniors. A resident of Stratford, she also sang the anthem at the P.E.I. Rocket games last year.

The evening includes a complimentary lunch, and there will be a 50/50 draw.

The Malcolm Darrach Center is located in East Royalty on MacRae Drive, offers plenty of free parking and is wheelchair accessible.
