Students graduate from maritime cadet program

Eighteen students graduated from the Holland College maritime cadet program at the Marine Training Centre, located on the Summerside Waterfront Campus, recently.

The students participat­e in one of two programs, the bridge watch rating and engine room rating programs.

The Kongsberg Boatswain Award for Leadership was presented to Edward Stowe IV, a student in bridge watch rating, and the Kongsberg Oiler Award was presented to Tré Jones, a student in engine room rating. Two students were presented with the Bahamas Maritime Authority Top Student Award: Clatira Almir, bridge watch rating and G’Niyo Stuart, engine room tating.

The program, a collaborat­ive effort between the college and the Bahamas Maritime Authority, has been preparing youth from Bermuda and the Bahamas to work in the marine industry for several years. Almost 200 young cadets have undertaken this training at the Marine Training Centre.
