Canadian retail chain Princess Auto coming to Charlottetown

- BY JIM DAY

Construction will begin soon in Charlottetown on the site for Princess Auto.

City council gave third reading a unanimous nod Monday for the project to proceed.

Princess Auto is a Canadian retail chain specializing in farm, industrial, garage, and surplus items.

The store will be in a new building to be constructed at the corner of St. Dunstan Street and Malpeque Road behind the new Sobeys and near the new Canadian Tire.

Jamie Petrie, chief operating officer of Plaza Retail REIT, says construction will start within the next couple of weeks and must be completed by Jan. 15, 2016.

The store will have 1,882 square metres of retail space.

“We do look forward to bringing another exciting project to the Island,’’ said Petrie.

At a public meeting in late May, the developer assured council he would co-operate with the Ellen’s Creek Watershed group to protect an adjacent waterway.
