Cana­dian re­tail chain Princess Auto com­ing to Char­lot­te­town

Con­struc­tion will be­gin soon in Char­lot­te­town on the site for Princess Auto.

City coun­cil gave third read­ing a unan­i­mous nod Mon­day for the pro­ject to pro­ceed.

Princess Auto is a Cana­dian re­tail chain spe­cial­iz­ing in farm, in­dus­trial, garage, and sur­plus items.

The store will be in a new build­ing to be con­structed at the cor­ner of St. Dun­stan Street and Malpeque Road be­hind the new Sobeys and near the new Cana­dian Tire.

Jamie Petrie, chief op­er­at­ing of­fi­cer of Plaza Re­tail REIT, says con­struc­tion will start within the next cou­ple of weeks and must be com­pleted by Jan. 15, 2016.

The store will have 1,882 square me­tres of re­tail space.

“We do look for­ward to bring­ing another ex­cit­ing pro­ject to the Is­land,’’ said Petrie.

At a public meet­ing in late May, the devel­oper as­sured coun­cil he would co-op­er­ate with the Ellen’s Creek Wa­ter­shed group to pro­tect an ad­ja­cent wa­ter­way.
