Museum supporters earn award
The Gilbert Buote Award for 2015 has been presented to the Friends of the Farmers’ Bank of Rustico for activities organized last year to mark the 150th anniversary of the charter of the farmers’ bank.
The Sister Antoinette DesRoches Historical Committee presented the award during the Saint-Jean-Baptiste Day celebrations held at the Farmers’s Bank of Rustico Museum recently. Presented annually, the award serves to recognize outstanding projects in the field of Acadian history and heritage on Prince Edward Island.
For several years, the Friends of the Farmers’ Bank of Rustico have been contributing considerably to the preservation and promotion of Rustico’s Acadian heritage.
Each summer, they offer a variety of activities for Islanders and visitors, which help create a better awareness of Acadian history and culture.
This heritage building, which the friends managed to preserve and restore, will be celebrating its 150th anniversary in 20162017.
