Mu­seum sup­port­ers earn award

The Gil­bert Buote Award for 2015 has been pre­sented to the Friends of the Farm­ers’ Bank of Rus­tico for ac­tiv­i­ties or­ga­nized last year to mark the 150th an­niver­sary of the char­ter of the farm­ers’ bank.

The Sis­ter An­toinette DesRoches His­tor­i­cal Com­mit­tee pre­sented the award dur­ing the Saint-Jean-Bap­tiste Day cel­e­bra­tions held at the Farm­ers’s Bank of Rus­tico Mu­seum re­cently. Pre­sented an­nu­ally, the award serves to rec­og­nize out­stand­ing projects in the field of Aca­dian history and her­itage on Prince Ed­ward Is­land.

For sev­eral years, the Friends of the Farm­ers’ Bank of Rus­tico have been con­tribut­ing con­sid­er­ably to the preser­va­tion and pro­mo­tion of Rus­tico’s Aca­dian her­itage.

Each sum­mer, they of­fer a va­ri­ety of ac­tiv­i­ties for Is­lan­ders and visi­tors, which help cre­ate a bet­ter aware­ness of Aca­dian history and cul­ture.

This her­itage build­ing, which the friends man­aged to pre­serve and re­store, will be cel­e­brat­ing its 150th an­niver­sary in 20162017.
