Two dead, two in­jured from light­ning strikes in Wales

LON­DON —Hos­pi­tal of­fi­cials say two peo­ple have died from sep­a­rate light­ning strikes in Wales’ Bre­con Bea­cons na­tional park. The Prince Charles Hos­pi­tal in Merthr Tyd­fil, about 40 kilo­me­tres north of Cardiff, con­firmed that two oth­ers re­main in the hos­pi­tal fol­low­ing Sun­day’s light­ning storm on the Pen Y Fan moun­tain range in Wales. One of the in­jured was be­ing treated for burns. In an ear­lier state­ment, the Welsh Am­bu­lance Ser­vice said three peo­ple who were walk­ing to­gether had been hos­pi­tal­ized af­ter be­ing hit by light­ning. The walk­ers in­cluded a man in his 50s, and no de­tails were avail­able for the oth­ers. The hos­pi­tal said one of those three later died, while the sec­ond per­son who died was in­jured sep­a­rately.
