O’Shea throws gem as Is­lan­ders sweep Alpines

Dan O’Shea tossed a no-hitter Satur­day as the Char­lot­te­town Gaudet’s Auto Body Is­lan­ders de­feated the Saint John Alpines 30.

The vic­tory gave the Is­lan­ders the dou­ble­header sweep af­ter win­ning the opener 8-2. The Is­lan­ders im­proved to 11-7 with their third straight win in the New Brunswick Se­nior Base­ball League while the Alpines are in the base­ment with a 3-16 record.

O’Shea struck out six and walked one for the Is­lan­ders.

The Is­lan­ders scored two in the top of the fourth to break open a score­less tie when Alex Ab­bott de­liv­ered a two-run sin­gle. Sean Cor­co­ran and Tay­lor Larkin each hit a dou­ble.

Brooks Saun­ders took the loss, giv­ing up eight hits and two walks. Brody Cham­ber­lain pitched one in­ning of re­lief.

The Is­lan­ders jumped out to a 4-0 lead in the first in­ning in Game 1 and did not look back. They tacked on three more in the sec­ond.

Jor­dan Steven­son went the dis­tance to record the win, giv­ing up two hits while is­su­ing three walks and strik­ing out three. Sher­man Yeo took the loss in his first start of the sea­son, giv­ing up eight hits while record­ing seven strike­outs. Only four of the runs he gave up were earned.

Lead­off hitter Dy­lan McKenna went 2-for-5 with a sin­gle and a solo home run for Char­lot­te­town. An­drew Mac­don­ald had a sin­gle, knocked in two and scored a run while Sean Cor­co­ran and O’Shea each dou­bled.

Adam Clark and Kevin DeSaulniers had the Alpine hits.

The Is­lan­ders re­turn to ac­tion Tues­day when they host the Monc­ton Fisher Cats at 7:30 p.m.
