Governor’s Plate eliminations set
Both races will take place on Sunday
The Governor’s Plate field will be determined at Red Shores at Summerside Raceway on Sunday.
The top four finishers from each of the two $5,000 invitational elimination races will advance to the 47th running of the Governor’s Plate, presented by Summerside Chrysler Dodge. Summerside’s most prestigious standardbred race will conclude Governor’s Plate Week of harness racing on Saturday, July 18.
This year’s Governor’s Plate final will go for a $22,000 purse, which is $3,000 less than last year.
The eliminations feature two eight-horse fields, and will go in Races 10 and 12. Race 10 is scheduled for 3:34 p.m., while the second elimination is expected to go at 4:08 p.m.
D Gs Camme, who set a track record of 1:53 flat in last year’s Governor’s Plate final, is back with driver Gilles Barrieau. However, they will have to overcome the outside No. 8 post in the first elimination.
Waterside Light, driven by Kenny Arsenault, has drawn the rail in the second elimination.
This is the first year both eliminations have been held on the same day. In previous years, one elimination was held on Sunday afternoon’s card, and the second went as part of Monday night’s program.
Post time for the 12-dash card is 1 p.m.
