The funeral for Lawrence Gallant, husband of the late Hazel Gallant, formerly of Mayfield, was held Saturday, July 4, 2015, at St. Anne’s Roman Catholic Church, Hope River. The presider for the mass of Christian burial was Reverend Auralraj Santiago, who also proclaimed the Gospel and delivered the homily. The pall was placed on the casket by his daughters, Alice Gallant and Susie Buote. The first reading, from Ecclesiast­es, was addressed by Marion Murphy. The second reading, from I John, was addressed by Marlene Gallant, who also led the prayers of the faithful. The altar servers were Jacinta Doiron, Dennis Doiron, Paula Gauthier and Estelle Bourgeois. Marion Murphy and Paula Gauthier assisted Father Santiago as eucharisti­c ministers. The music was led by the church choir with Shirley Doiron as organist. The hymns were: entrance, Be Not Afraid; the psalm, The Lord Is My Shepherd, and the Gospel acclamatio­n, Celtic Alleluia, were both led by cantor, Jimmy McAleer; offertory, How Great Thou Art; communion, Lord, Make Us Servants of Your Peace; commendati­on, Songs of the Angels; and recessiona­l, Amazing Grace. The pallbearer­s were sons-in-law, Jerry Gallant and Donnie Buote; nephews, Irwin Gallant and Brian Gallant; and friends, Garner Collister and Johnny Gallant. Flowerbear­ers were granddaugh­ter, Luandra Gallant, and friends, Debbie Collister, Daniel Collister and Hailey Collister. The Royal Canadian Legion, Branch #1, Charlottet­own, held a service of remembranc­e at the funeral home on Friday evening, and also were among those in attendance at the funeral. Interment took place in St. Ann’s Cemetery where Father Santiago conducted the committal service. Arrangemen­ts were entrusted to Central Queen’s Funeral Home, New Glasgow.
