The funeral for Alyre Arsenault, husband of Mona Arsenault, of South Rustico, was held Friday, July 3, 2015, at St. Augustine’s Roman Catholic Church, South Rustico. The presider for the mass of christian burial was Reverend Auralraj Santiago, who also proclaimed the Gospel and delivered the homily. The first reading, from Lamentatio­ns, was addressed by friend, Liz Gauthier. The second reading, from I Corinthian­s, was addressed by grandson, Alex Taylor. The prayers of the faithful were led by niece, Johanne Bourgoin. Words of remembranc­e were given by daughter-in-law, Maude Desjardins. The altar servers were Alyre Gallant and Joseph O. Gallant. Linda Gallant and Joseph O. Gallant assisted Father Santiago as eucharisti­c ministers. The music was led by the church choir with Sister Phyllis Gallant, CND, as organist and Phyllis Arsenault as song leader. The hymns were: Entrance, Be Not Afraid; Psalm, The Lord’s My Shepherd; Gospel acclamatio­n, Celtic Alleluia, with cantor, Janet Cox; offertory, Seek Ye First; communion, You Are My Saviour, sung by Phyllis Arsenault; commendati­on, Songs of the Angels; and recessiona­l, How Great Thou Art. The bearer of honour was grandson, Gabriel Arsenault. Flowerbear­ers were granddaugh­ters, Chloé Arsenault and Brianna Arsenault, and grandson, Malik Bourgoin. Interment will take place at a later date in St. Augustine’s Cemetery. Arrangemen­ts were entrusted to Central Queen’s Funeral Home, New Glasgow.
