Lot 7 Ceilidh season in 15th year of showcasing Island musicians

-

The 2015 season of the Lot 7 Ceilidhs got off to a rousing start on Thursday, July 2, at St. Mark's Hall in Burton, located in western P.E.I.

Sandra Jones and family, which included, husband Ricky and son Andy, her mother, Mary, and her sister, Laura Lee Shea, were backed up by three dynamic musicians, Victor and Kathy Doucette and Stephen Perry. The opening number featured Perry on fiddle accompanied by his flying stepping feet keeping time to his music.

The show went on from there with the group singing their favourite and lively songs. Shea never fails to please the audience with her choice of songs and unique voice. Andy filled in the music as he kept time on the drums. He also had his friend, Lester, the puppet, in for a visit. Sandra, the leader, displayed her usual warmth and charm with her special songs, all for which she is famous and it is always a treat when she calls on Ricky to sing a few of his favourite songs from their new CD. When the audience felt they had more than their share of talent for one show, they were treated with a visit from the King himself, Elvis.

July 9 will see a return of the three musicians, the Doucettes and Perry, with their good friend, Alphy Perry. They are visiting the ceilidh scene with a special show of their very own, one often reserved for private parties. One can also expect a treat as two musical talents together will play the one instrument. It will prove to be a lively and fun evening of entertainment.

The ceilidhs will continue each Thursday at 7:30 p.m. with great music and song. There will be the usual lunch, door prize and a 50/50 draw. This year, a former parishioner, Annie Gallant, has donated one of her handmade quilts for a lottery that will continue throughout the season. The ceilidh organizers look forward to the return of our valued audiences and hoping to see many new faces.
