AHL deal

For­mer P.E.I. Rocket and Summerside Western Cap­i­tals for­ward Pa­trick McGrath signed an Amer­i­can Hockey League con­tract for the 2015-16 sea­son Wed­nes­day with the Wilkes-Barre/Scran­ton Pen­guins. A na­tive of Shaver­town, Penn­syl­va­nia, McGrath be­came the first lo­cal hockey player to join the Pen­guins, sign­ing a pro­fes­sional try­out agree­ment with the team on Dec. 26, 2014. He made his AHL de­but the next night ver­sus Bridge­port Sound Tigers and ap­peared in two to­tal games for the Pen­guins. McGrath, 22, is en­ter­ing his third year as a pro­fes­sional af­ter spend­ing the last two sea­sons with the Wheel­ing Nail­ers of the ECHL. McGrath ranked sixth in the ECHL in penalty min­utes (246) dur­ing the 2014-15 sea­son.
