Former P.E.I. Rocket and Summerside Western Capitals forward Patrick McGrath signed an American Hockey League contract for the 2015-16 season Wednesday with the Wilkes-Barre/Scranton Penguins. A native of Shavertown, Pennsylvania, McGrath became the first local hockey player to join the Penguins, signing a professional tryout agreement with the team on Dec. 26, 2014. He made his AHL debut the next night versus Bridgeport Sound Tigers and appeared in two total games for the Penguins. McGrath, 22, is entering his third year as a professional after spending the last two seasons with the Wheeling Nailers of the ECHL. McGrath ranked sixth in the ECHL in penalty minutes (246) during the 2014-15 season.
