Father and daughter, Darren and Carlee Doyle of Charlottetown are $1 million Lotto Max winners.

The Doyles were announced as the May 22 draw winners during a break at the Cavendish Beach Music Festival over the weekend.

Atlantic Lotto is a title sponsor of the festival.

A release from the corporation says that the Doyles have been buying lottery tickets together for about six months.

Darren checked his lottery numbers using the Atlantic Lottery mobile app, after learning there had been a winner in P.E.I.

“A few minutes later he was shaking Carlee awake to ask if she was seeing the same numbers he was,” states the news release. “Then they woke up Carlee’s brother for his opinion. Finally, they called Carlee’s mother at work to share the news, and she took the rest of the day off.”

The draw date also happened to be Darren’s wedding anniversary.

“I’m trying to stay as mellow and low key as I can,” Darren said. “But eventually it’s going to hit me.”

This win means Darren can fulfil a long-held dream to have a Mustang car.

He has ordered one in all black with red leather seats. He’s also buying a new car for his wife, and he plans to do some work on the family home.

In keeping with the car theme, Carlee has also decided to buy a new vehicle. Otherwise, she is still thinking about things to do with the money. Going to school on the Island in the autumn figures into her plans.

“You don’t have to do it all at once,” Carlee she said. “You can take your time with it. It will still be there.”

The winning ticket was sold at Belvedere Esso on Brackley Point Road in Charlottetown.
