’Canes quartet headed to AUS
Holland College offensive linemen Shelton Williams and Owen MacWilliams, and receivers Jaylen McRae and Eugene McMinns accepted offers to play for Acadia University come September.
The quartet anchored the school’s undefeated and championship title season in 2014. It was the school’s second straight Moosehead Cup crown and third in six years.
McMinns, a native of the Bahamas, and MacWilliams, from Summerside, graduated from the sport and leisure management program.
MacRae transferred from Holland College’s business administration program and will study psychology.
The four will join fellow Hurricanes and Holland College alumni Nathan Conway and Garvin Cius at Acadia.
In other ’Canes news, head coach Andrew Hickey is leaving the position to pursue graduate studies in sports management at the University of New Brunswick.
Kyle Quinlan, a former assistant coach with McMaster, takes over the head coaching reins.
Hickey joined Holland College in 2013 as offensive coordinator under then-head coach Mark MacDougall, before assuming the top job for 2014.
As quarterback for McMaster University, Quinlan led the Marauders to the Vanier Cup national championship in 2011, a game in which he was named MVP.
The next season he won the Hec Creighton Trophy as Canadian university football’s most valuable football player and was later named the Canadian Interuniversity Sport male athlete of the Year for 2012-2013.
After attending training camp with the CFL’s Montreal Alouettes, Quinlan returned to Mc- Master as an assistant coach for the past two seasons.
