Island lifters golden on mainland

P.E.I. powerlifters Jillian Sproul, John MacDonald and Justin Smith brought home gold medals in their respective divisions from the inaugural New Brunswick provincial powerlifting championships held recently in Oromoncto, N.B. Sproul, lifting in 57 kg Master 1, squatted 105 kg, benched 55 kg and deadlifted 125 kg for a total of 285 kg. MacDonald, a 120kg Open class lifter, competed in the bench only portion of the event and lifted 182.5 kg. Justin Smith, a 74 kg Junior lifter, also competed in bench only and won with a lift of 145 kg. Smith and Tyler Ramsay were referees for the championships.
