Char­lot­te­town Y’s Men’s Club holds awards night

Bill Ir­win was this year’s re­cip­i­ent of the Y’s Man of the Year Award dur­ing the Char­lot­te­town Y’s Men’s Club re­cent an­nual awards night.

This award is known as the Jenk­ins Me­mo­rial Award and is awarded an­nu­ally to the out­stand­ing Y’s Man of the year.

Earl Foster was the re­cip­i­ent of the Pres­i­dent’s Award and is pre­sented to the Out­stand­ing Com­mit­tee Chair­man of the Year.

Fifty-year mem­ber­ship pins were pre­sented to Eric MacNeill, Ge­orge Scantle­bury, John Massey, Don Worthen and Roy Pursey. These five gen­tle­men have been ac­tively in­volved in club ac­tiv­i­ties for a to­tal of 265 years.

The Char­lot­te­town Y”s Men’s Club was the re­cip­i­ent of two awards at the re­cent Mar­itimes Re­gional Con­ven­tion in Wood­stock, New Brunswick.

The World Out­look Award rec­og­nizes the con­tri­bu­tion of clubs to­wards in­ter­na­tional pro­grams such as Time of Fast, Brother Clubs and spe­cially en­dorsed in­ter­na­tional pro­grams such as Roll Back Malaria.

The Brother­hood Award rec­og­nizes clubs that as­sist del­e­gates from around the world to travel to other coun­tries to help pro­mote the in­ter­na­tional as­so­ci­a­tion.

The Brother­hood Pro­gram helps to in­crease the un­der­stand­ing of dif­fer­ent cul­tures world­wide.

This club will be cel­e­brat­ing the 90th an­niver­sary of its char­ter­ing this com­ing Novem­ber. Be­tween now and then, it will be op­er­at­ing its an­nual park­ing lot on Ex­hi­bi­tion Drive dur­ing Old Home Week and then on Oct. 26. The Char­lot­te­town Y’s Men’s Club will be con­duct­ing its 29th an­nual Food Drive for the Up­per Room Hos­pi­tal­ity Min­istry and Soup Kitchen.
