The funeral for Floyd MacQuarrie, of Halifax, formerly of South Rustico, was held Saturday, July 18, 2015, at St. Augustine’s Roman Catholic Church, South Rustico. The presider for the mass of Christian burial was Reverend Auralraj Santiago, who also proclaimed the Gospel and delivered the homily. The pall was placed on the casket by his sister and brother-in-law, Elaine and Shawn Duffy, and his brother and sister-in-law, Jason and Lori MacQuarrie. The first reading, from Ecclesiast­es, was addressed by Stella Gallant. The second reading, from I Corinthian­s, was addressed by Rose Dennis. The prayers of the faithful were led by J.R. Dennis. The altar servers were Alyre Gallant, Joseph O. Gallant and Linda Gallant. Margaret Gallant and Linda Gallant assisted Father Santiago as eucharisti­c ministers. The music was led by the church choir with Shane Arsenault as organist and Phyllis Arsenault as choir director. The hymns were: Entrance, Be Not Afraid; Psalm, The Lord’s My Shepherd; Gospel Acclamatio­n, Celtic Alleluia, cantor, Phyllis Arsenault; offertory, Here I Am, Lord; communion, Peace Is Flowing Like a River; commendati­on, Songs of the Angels; and recessiona­l, Amazing Grace. Honorary pallbearer­s were Dale Mosher, Shaun Gavin, Vernon Dennis, Kent Wheeler, Darren Mosher, Mike Kadyk and Greg Arsenault. Pallbearer­s were Joey Bernard, Trevis Bernard, Cecil Bernard, James Ford, Wayne Gallant and Colton Dennis. Flower bearers were, Amry Gavin, Kassie-Rose Gavin-Henry, James Duffy, Devon, Duffy, Shauntae Dunsford, Jolene Wheeler, Carrie Anne Bernard, Stella Shea and Andy Shea. Interment will take place at a later date in St. Simon and St. Jude Cemetery, Tignish. Arrangemen­ts were entrusted to Central Queen’s Funeral Home, New Glasgow.
