Alberton robbery case adjourned

-

A man accused of rendering an 82-year-old man unconscious before robbing him appeared in provincial court in Summerside Tuesday.

Allan Joseph Gallant, 46, of Alberton, has been in custody since Dec. 29.

Gallant had been scheduled to enter his plea and potentially participate in a show cause hearing, but his lawyer, legal aide attorney Trish Cheverie, asked for the case to be set over for at least a month while she reviewed the case with her client. The accused agreed to remain in custody until Feb. 2, when a new plea and show cause hearings could be set.

Gallant faces charges, one count each, of theft, robbery, administering a noxious substance, break and enter, obstructing justice and public mischief for misleading a police officer, in connection with an incident on Dec. 21. Police are alleging an 82year-old man was drugged and then robbed of money.
