Al­ber­ton rob­bery case ad­journed

A man ac­cused of ren­der­ing an 82-year-old man un­con­scious be­fore rob­bing him ap­peared in provin­cial court in Summerside Tues­day.

Al­lan Joseph Gal­lant, 46, of Al­ber­ton, has been in cus­tody since Dec. 29.

Gal­lant had been sched­uled to en­ter his plea and po­ten­tially par­tic­i­pate in a show cause hear­ing, but his lawyer, le­gal aide at­tor­ney Trish Chev­erie, asked for the case to be set over for at least a month while she re­viewed the case with her client. The ac­cused agreed to re­main in cus­tody un­til Feb. 2, when a new plea and show cause hear­ings could be set.

Gal­lant faces charges, one count each, of theft, rob­bery, ad­min­is­ter­ing a nox­ious sub­stance, break and en­ter, ob­struct­ing jus­tice and pub­lic mis­chief for mis­lead­ing a po­lice of­fi­cer, in con­nec­tion with an in­ci­dent on Dec. 21. Po­lice are al­leg­ing an 82year-old man was drugged and then robbed of money.
