Hockey Day hits P.E.I.

Three hockey games, wrestling matches and more set for Satur­day in Char­lot­te­town

It’s a full dance card for hockey day in P.E.I. on Satur­day at East­link Cen­tre in Char­lot­te­town.

First, the Char­lot­te­town Is­lan­ders host the de­fend­ing Pres­i­dent’s Cup champs the Ri­mouski Oceanic in Que­bec Ma­jor Ju­nior Hockey League ac­tion at 3 p.m., then the UPEI Pan­thers host the Dal­housie Tigers in an At­lantic Univer­sity Sport men’s hockey night­cap, start­ing at 7 p.m.

Pan­thers de­fence­man Ryan MacKinnon said it’s a fun time for hockey play­ers and fans of the game.

He took part in the first an­nual event last sea­son as cap­tain of the Is­lan­ders.

“Hockey day in P.E.I. is a spe­cial day for Is­lan­ders to enjoy hockey through­out the day by be­ing able to see many of the leagues on P.E.I.,” said MacKinnon, a Summerside na­tive. “It’s a great event and was very spe­cial to be a part of.”



the games is Kow­boy Mike Hughes and the stars of Red Rock Wrestling shake the ring be­gin­ning at 5:45 p.m. in the East­link trade cen­tre.

“This will be a great op­por­tu­nity for us to show­case our tal­ents to fans who may not have seen Red Rock Wrestling and an op­por­tu­nity for wrestling fans to be ex­posed to live hockey as well,” Hughes said.

The Char­lot­te­town Ab­bies play a pee­wee AA game at 1 p.m. at the East­link Cen­tre while there will also be a chil­dren’s fun zone open­ing at 5 p.m.

The goal of the day is to raise money for mi­nor hockey teams across the Is­land. Full day passes are $20 and are avail­able at the East­link Cen­tre box of­fice, Phin­ley’s, Nat­u­rally Fit, or by call­ing 902-629-6625.

Peo­ple with sea­son tick­ets to ei­ther the Is­lan­ders or Pan­thers can pur­chase a ticket to the other game for $10 by tak­ing their ticket to the box of­fice.
