Water Act response due

Friday is deadline for public feedback on first stage of act

-

Friday is the last day for Islanders to submit feedback on the preliminary development stage of Prince Edward Island’s new Water Act.

Since July, government has been accepting input on the creation of the new Water Act for Prince Edward Island through various methods, including email, online form, phone and written submissions.

Next, the Environmental Advisory Council will prepare a report for government reflecting what it has heard throughout the first stage of consultation and present it to the minister of environment.

This report will be made available to the public on the Water Act website.

“Upon receipt of the EAC report, my department will review the report and begin development of a first draft of legislation. Once we have a draft Water Act, it will then go back to Islanders for a second round of public consultation,” said Robert Mitchell, minister of communities, land and environment.

“I want to thank all Islanders who have participated in the first stage of public consultation and encourage everyone to join us in our next round of consultations that will be announced in the coming months.”

All submissions received and presentations made to date are available for public review on the provincial Water Act website.

Until Friday, feedback can be submitted on the province’s website, as well as via phone, email and written submission. To access the White Paper for P.E.I.’s Water Act and to submit feedback, visit www.gov.pe.ca/wateract.
