Wa­ter Act re­sponse due

Fri­day is dead­line for pub­lic feed­back on first stage of act

Fri­day is the last day for Is­lan­ders to sub­mit feed­back on the pre­lim­i­nary de­vel­op­ment stage of Prince Ed­ward Is­land’s new Wa­ter Act.

Since July, govern­ment has been ac­cept­ing in­put on the cre­ation of the new Wa­ter Act for Prince Ed­ward Is­land through var­i­ous meth­ods, in­clud­ing email, on­line form, phone and writ­ten sub­mis­sions.

Next, the En­vi­ron­men­tal Ad­vi­sory Coun­cil will pre­pare a re­port for govern­ment re­flect­ing what it has heard through­out the first stage of con­sul­ta­tion and present it to the min­is­ter of en­vi­ron­ment.

This re­port will be made avail­able to the pub­lic on the Wa­ter Act web­site.

“Upon re­ceipt of the EAC re­port, my depart­ment will re­view the re­port and be­gin de­vel­op­ment of a first draft of leg­is­la­tion. Once we have a draft Wa­ter Act, it will then go back to Is­lan­ders for a se­cond round of pub­lic con­sul­ta­tion,” said Robert Mitchell, min­is­ter of com­mu­ni­ties, land and en­vi­ron­ment.

“I want to thank all Is­lan­ders who have par­tic­i­pated in the first stage of pub­lic con­sul­ta­tion and en­cour­age ev­ery­one to join us in our next round of con­sul­ta­tions that will be an­nounced in the com­ing months.”

All sub­mis­sions re­ceived and pre­sen­ta­tions made to date are avail­able for pub­lic re­view on the pro­vin­cial Wa­ter Act web­site.
