The P.E.I. Scot­ties Tour­na­ment of Hearts women’s curl­ing cham­pi­onship started Fri­day in Mon­tague.

The Saint John Sea Dogs de­feated the Char­lot­te­town Is­lan­ders 8-7 in over­time Fri­day in Que­bec Ma­jor Ju­nior Hockey League play.

Mathieu Joseph scored the win­ner 2:58 into the ex­tra frame to end it.

Matthew High­more had a goal and three as­sists to lead the host Sea Dogs while Joe Ve­leno, Nathan Noel, Sam Povorozniouk, Spencer Small­man, Matt Mur­phy and Jakub Zbo­ril also scored.

Jake Cough­ler scored twice, in­clud­ing the ty­ing goal with five min­utes to play in the third.

Bradley Kennedy, Oliver Cooper and Mitchell Bal­mas each had a goal and an as­sist while Daniel Sprong and Filip Ch­lapik also had mark­ers.

Luc Desch­enes had three as­sists, Alexis Vanier and Sa­muel Blais each had two while sin­gles went to Kameron Kielly, Filip Ryd­strom and Guillaume Beaudry.

Alex Bishop stopped 13 of 15 shots in re­lief of Marc-An­toine Tur­cotte, who al­lowed five goals on 20 shots be­fore be­ing re­placed af­ter 31:30. Ma­son McDon­ald stopped 50 shots in the loss.

Char­lot­te­town held 3-2 and 6-4 pe­riod leads.

Saint John im­proved to 26-133-0 while Char­lot­te­town is 1621-4-2.

The Is­lan­ders play in Monc­ton to­day at 4 p.m. be­fore host­ing Hal­i­fax Sun­day at 3 p.m.
