Joseph scores in OT
The P.E.I. Scotties Tournament of Hearts women’s curling championship started Friday in Montague.
The Saint John Sea Dogs defeated the Charlottetown Islanders 8-7 in overtime Friday in Quebec Major Junior Hockey League play.
Mathieu Joseph scored the winner 2:58 into the extra frame to end it.
Matthew Highmore had a goal and three assists to lead the host Sea Dogs while Joe Veleno, Nathan Noel, Sam Povorozniouk, Spencer Smallman, Matt Murphy and Jakub Zboril also scored.
Jake Coughler scored twice, including the tying goal with five minutes to play in the third.
Bradley Kennedy, Oliver Cooper and Mitchell Balmas each had a goal and an assist while Daniel Sprong and Filip Chlapik also had markers.
Luc Deschenes had three assists, Alexis Vanier and Samuel Blais each had two while singles went to Kameron Kielly, Filip Rydstrom and Guillaume Beaudry.
Alex Bishop stopped 13 of 15 shots in relief of Marc-Antoine Turcotte, who allowed five goals on 20 shots before being replaced after 31:30. Mason McDonald stopped 50 shots in the loss.
Charlottetown held 3-2 and 6-4 period leads.
Saint John improved to 26-133-0 while Charlottetown is 1621-4-2.
The Islanders play in Moncton today at 4 p.m. before hosting Halifax Sunday at 3 p.m.
