Dut leads UPEI men to victory

Dut Dut had 30 points and 11 rebounds to pace the host UPEI Panthers to a 104-83 victory Friday over the Acadia Axemen in Atlantic University Sport men’s basketball action.

Brad States scored 24 points and grabbed nine boards while second-team all-Canadian Tyler Scott had an off-night shooting, but found other ways to be effective. He shot 3-for-16 from the field for eight points but had 12 rebounds and seven assists.

Milorad Sedlarevic added 16 points for the Panthers while Jake Kendrick chipped in 15 off the bench.

Shaquille Smith paced the Axemen with 19 points.

Acadia led 25-21 after the first quarter while the game was tied 44-44 at the half.

The teams play again tonight at 8 p.m.

Women

The Acadia Axewomen had a big second half Friday to defeat the UPEI Panthers 80-62 in women’s action. The Panthers held quarter leads of 23-16 and 33-26 but were outscored 54-29 in the final two quarters.

Paloma Anderson led Acadia (10-0) with 34 points.

Angenay Williams had 14 points and nine rebounds for the Panthers (2-7) while Kiera Rigby had 11 points and eight assists.

The teams meet again in Charlottet­own today at 6 p.m.
