CBC will produce an eightepisode TV series that will air in 2017.

YTV will air a two-hour TV movie on Feb. 15 called “Lucy Maud Montgomery’s Anne of Green Gables’’, starring Martin Sheen as Matthew Cuthbert, Ella Ballentine as Anne and Sara Botsford as Marilla Cuthbert.

Lucy Maud Montgomery wrote Anne of Green Gables in 1905, drawing from her own experiences and on the rural life and traditions of P.E.I.

Her manuscript was rejected by several publishers so the author put it away in a hat box.

In 1907, she found the manuscript again, re-read it, and tried to have it published again.

The novel was published in 1908.

More than two dozen different adaptations have been brought to TV, film and the stage over the years.

One of the most well known version was the Kevin Sullivan miniseries in 1985 that starred Megan Follows, Colleen Dewhurst and Richard Farnsworth.
