Week of Prayer for Chris­tian Unity set for Jan. 24 at New Glas­gow Chris­tian Church

The Week of Prayer for Chris­tian Unity will be cel­e­brated at New Glas­gow Chris­tian Church on Sun­day, Sept. 24 with Jan 25 as the storm date.

The ser­vice will be­gin at 2 p.m.

Churches par­tic­i­pat­ing in this an­nual ec­u­meni­cal ser­vice in­clude: Cavendish United, Breadal­bane United, Cen­tral Queens United, Brook­field, Hunter River and Glas­gow Road Pres­by­te­rian, New Glas­gow Chris­tian and Stella Maris, St. Au­gus­tine and St. Anne’s Ro­man Catholic.

This year’s theme is “Called to Pro­claim the Mighty Acts of the Lord”, based on 1 Peter 2:9. Clergy and laity from all churches will par­tic­i­pate in the prayers, scrip­ture read­ings, mu­sic and fel­low­ship. Bring­ing the mes­sage is Ver­non Buote from Stella Maris church and the food bank.

In lieu of a col­lec­tion, par­tic­i­pants are in­vited to bring items for the food bank in the are. All are in­vited to take part in the pro­gram and the lunch that will fol­low pro­vided by mem­bers of New Glas­gow Chris­tian church.

2016 marks the 13th year of ob­serv­ing the week of prayer for Chris­tian unity in the ru­ral area of the prov­ince where there is a strong bond of ec­u­meni­cism through­out the year.
