Brutal assault case due up in February

-

A pre-trial date has been set next month for one of two men charged with aggravated assault in connection with a brutal assault in November. Jeremy Joseph Cummiskey, 22, is scheduled to appear in court Feb. 17. If a trial is required, three days have been set aside starting March 1. Cummiskey has been charged with assault in connection with the Nov. 24 assault that sent 42-year-old Trevor Dale Acorn to hospital in Halifax with life-threatening injuries. Cummiskey earlier pleaded guilty to a mischief charge relating to damage he caused at the police station the day of his arrest for aggravated assault and was sentenced to serve 15 days in jail. He remains in custody. Michael Robert Bryenton, the other man charged in connection with the assault of Acorn, also remains in custody. Acorn has since been released from hospital.
