They’re stingy bunch

Defence, not offence, hot topic in P.E.I. junior C action

- Lynx 2, Sabres 0 Aces 3, Metros 1

Goals were had to come by Sunday in the Razzy’s P.E.I. Junior C Hockey League led by the Southside MacDonald’s Excavation EF MacPhee Lynx’s 2-0 shutout victory over the Belfast Down East Auto Parts Sabres in Belfast.

Later, the Tignish Perry’s Construction Aces bested the Sherwood Metros 3-1 in Tignish.

Southside’s win moved it to within four points of the leagueleading Sabres.

Belfast raised $1,261 at Sunday’s game in support of Callum Thomson and his family.

Following is a recap of the games:

In Belfast, Colton Dawson and Brady Vandervelden provided just enough offence for the Lynx to secure the road win.

Southside goalie Sean MacPhee was a brick wall, stopping 48 shots for his league-leading third no-no of the season. His 10-4 record also tops the circuit.

Meanwhile, Ivan MacPhail and Jake Larsen chipped in assists for the Lynx.

Southside’s Ben Ladner kicked aside 24 shots in the loss.

Southside went 1-for-1 on the power play and led 1-0 after the first period and 2-0 at the second intermission.

Two goals in the second period broke open a tie game and were enough for the Aces to nab the win on home ice.

Colton Gallant and Connor Dillon did the honours in the second, while Tignish’s Tyson Carragher (1-1) and Sherwood’s Jake Arsenault exchanged goals in the first.

The game was tied 1-1 after the first frame. Sherwood outshot the Aces 31-22, but went 0-4 on the power play. Tignish was 1-for1 with the extra man.

Kristen Clemens earned the goaltending win over Blake Arsenault.
