Heart and Stroke Foundation moves fundraising month to June

-

The Heart and Stroke Foundation in P.E.I. advises Islanders that due to the severe winter conditions of 2015, and in the interests of safety for our volunteer canvassers, we will no longer be conducting the person-to-person campaign during Heart Month in February.

The campaign, which raises a significant percentage of the Foundation’s annual revenues, will instead take place in June which is Stroke Month.

Community Fund Development Co-ordinator, Crystal Cobb, is pleased with the move, which will allow canvassers to knock on doors in their neighbourhoods in warmer weather and with longer hours of daylight.

“We realized last year that many of our canvassers were unable to head out to knock on doors due to the inclement weather and with so many roadways and sidewalks impassable.”

Islanders are also encouraged to donate online during Heart Month in February or at any time of year by visiting heartmonth.heartandstroke.c a.

Volunteer canvassers are easily recognized by their canvasser materials that include the Heart and Stroke Foundation logo, and many residents of PEI have been visited by the same volunteer for a number of years.

However, the Foundation encourages anyone wishing to confirm the legitimacy of individuals requesting donations at their door to call co-ordinator Crystal Cobb at 902- 8927441.
