Strong showings

Island athletes perform well at internatio­nal, regional events

Lucas Boudreau and Caitlin Campbell won their sprint races Saturday at the North American Cup 3 in La Patrie, Que.

André Boudreau finished seventh.

On Sunday, Lucas shot 19-for20 and finished second in the pursuit with André improving from the first day to finish fourth. Campbell again shot 80 per cent and finished second.

On Jan. 9 and 10, nine Biathlon P.E.I. athletes competed in the Atlantic Cup 1 in Charlo, N.B.

André Boudreau, Caitlin Campbell, Callie Campbell and Simon Hale were all double-gold winners with many bouts of clean shooting and high percentage shooting.

Other medallist of the weekend were Lucas Boudreau double silver and Liam Ellis double bronze.

Completing the team was Sean Cordeiro, fifth and sixth, Johan Arendz, sixth and fifth, while Reagan Mills suffered a crash on the first day and was unable to finish or compete the second day.

Lucas Boudreau and Caitlin Campbell leave Friday to join Team Canada for Romania where they will compete at the World Youth and Junior Championsh­ip.

The rest of the team will be in Martock, N.S., this weekend while the third Atlantic Cup will be held in Brookvale Jan. 30 and 31.

More than 70 volunteers are required to run the event in Brookvale and Biathlon P.E.I. is looking for help for this event. If interested please contact Lynn Boudreau at lboudreau@upei.ca or call 902-675-2176.
