’Canes play at home tonight

Holland College Hurricanes basketball fans get their first chance to see their team on home court in 2016 today.

The teams host the University of Kings College Blue Devils today at 3 (women) and 5 (men) p.m. and Sunday at 1 (women) and 3 (men) p.m.

The women Hurricanes enter the weekend leading the Atlantic Collegiate Athletic Associatio­n with an 8-1 record while the Blue Devils (1-9) are seventh.

The Holland College squad has won seven in a row and is ranked fourth nationally.

This will be the first home action for Sarah Steele (Charlottet­own), Candace Smith (New Minas, N.S.), Milcania DiazRojas (Toronto) and Chrishanda Rahming (Nassau, Bahamas), who joined the Hurricanes for the second semester.

The men Hurricanes (11-0) are expecting a tough test this weekend as they take on the second place Blue Devils (10-2).

The Hurricanes, ranked second nationally, took their last meeting on Nov. 29 in Halifax.
