Week of prayer for Christian Unity to be celebrated Jan. 24 at New Glasgow Christian Church

The Week of Prayer for Christian Unity will be celebrated at New Glasgow Christian Church on Sunday, Jan. 24 with Jan. 25 as the storm date. The service will begin at 2 p.m. Churches participat­ing in this annual ecumenical service include: Cavendish United, Breadalban­e United, Central Queens United, Brookfield, Hunter River and Glasgow Road Presbyteri­an, New Glasgow Christian and Stella Maris, St. Augustine and St. Anne’s Roman Catholic.

This year’s theme is “Called to Proclaim the Mighty Acts of the Lord”, based on 1 Peter 2:9. Clergy and laity from all churches will participat­e in the prayers, scripture readings, music and fellowship. Bringing the message is Vernon Buote from Stella Maris church and the food bank.

In lieu of a collection, participan­ts are invited to bring items for the food bank in the are. All are invited to take part in the program and the lunch that will follow provided by members of New Glasgow Christian church.

2016 marks the 13th year of observing the week of prayer for Christian unity in the rural area of the province where there is a strong bond of ecumenicis­m throughout the year.
