Is­land squads de­feat Yukon

P.E.I. play­ing in seed­ing round to­day at ju­nior cham­pi­onships

Prince Ed­ward Is­land scored three triples Tues­day to de­feat Yukon 10-4 in eight ends at the Cana­dian ju­nior men’s curl­ing cham­pi­onship in Strat­ford, Ont.

The Matthew MacLean­skipped rink from the Maple Leaf and Corn­wall curl­ing clubs counted three in the se­cond, fourth and eighth end while adding a sin­gle in the sin­gle. Yukon scored one in the third and three in the fifth.

P.E.I. (2-4), which in­cludes lead Jor­dan Ma­cLean, se­cond Noah O’Con­nor and third Alan Ma­cLean, misses out on the cham­pi­onship round. They will play on in the seed­ing round to de­ter­mine rank­ings for the 2017 cham­pi­onships.


P.E.I.’s women’s team fin­ished with triples in the fi­nal two ends to de­feat Yukon 11-5 in eight ends.

The Katie Fuller­ton-skipped rink from the Corn­wall Curl­ing Club trailed 1-0 be­fore scor­ing deuces in the se­cond and third ends to take a 4-1 lead. Yukon scored two in the fourth to cut the lead to one. The Is­land squad added a sin­gle in the fifth be­fore giv­ing up a deuce in the sixth to tie the game 5-5.

P.E.I. (2-4), which in­cludes lead Aleya Quilty, se­cond Sabrina Smith and third Chloe McCloskey, is also in the seed­ing round.
